SAVE THE POST OFFICE AND PROTECT OUR ELECTIONS
QUICK READ: Our Postal Service will never be safe as long as Louis DeJoy, Trump’s mega-donor choice, remains Postmaster General. To ensure that mail voting remains a secure, reliable option for millions of voters and to protect the integrity of this election, the Senate must immediately confirm Marty Welch and Val Demings to the Postal Service Board of Governors so DeJoy can be fired and his disastrous policies reversed.

BACKGROUND
Since America’s inception, the Postal Service (USPS) has connected the country, providing a reliable, affordable means of communicating, no matter the distance.
Louis DeJoy, Trump’s installed Postmaster General, immediately imposed disastrous policies slowing delivery services, decreasing USPS hours, increasing consumers’ costs, and interfering in the 2020 election by depressing or delaying mail-in ballots—all in the name of “cost cutting.”
Biden’s been in office almost 4 years, but DeJoy’s still running USPS into the ground—closing post offices, eliminating thousands of jobs, slowing service, especially in rural area, and raising postage prices six timessince 2021. Project 2025—outlawing public sector unions, like the APWU—would further exacerbate these problems.
These drastic changes, while failing to deliver the promised cost savings, have hurt families and small businesses. And the widespread delays and lost mail caused by slashing USPS jobs and closing and consolidating mail centers risk interfering with timely receipt and return of the millions of mail ballots that could affect the election’s outcome.
To date, the Board’s largely ignored bipartisan Congressional and election officials’ appeals to change course and citizens’ demands to remove DeJoy.
While Biden’s missed opportunities to appoint individuals rejecting DeJoy’s policies, this summer he finally nominated two, whom the Senate won’t likely confirm until January.
Such foot-dragging is unacceptable, given the importance of this election for our democracy’s future. These nominees must immediately be confirmed, so DeJoy can be fired and his disastrous policies reversed.
