Biden warned yesterday that “democracy is in peril.” We can fight for and strengthen our democracy by pulling down the barriers that subvert the freedom to vote for People of Color.

Today, as we remember those who died in combat, we pause to reflect on veterans who, upon returning from war, died in domestic acts of racist terror. Today, we pledge to do all we can to end racist policies, racist terror, and racist violence. Today, though our MoCs' offices are closed, we can still leave messages asking them to join us.

The Senate can no longer put off confronting the filibuster. Majority Leader Schumer must force the GOP to filibuster bills with widespread bipartisan support now languishing in the Senate. This is the only way to demonstrate to the country and wavering Democratic Senators that the GOP’s real agenda is delay and obstruction. Failure to act decisively now will cause our democracy to wither and die.

We are the guardians of America’s democracy. Ours is the world’s longest-running experiment in self-government, an ingenious mechanism for improving life. But our democracy’s survival is not automatic. We protect and strengthen our democracy by fighting to extend its privileges to everyone.

There must be accountability for attacking democracy. Democrats must see the GOP’s feigning compromise for what it is - wielding super minority rule to keep power. Democrats must help all Americans, whatever their party, by passing the vital legislation we all need.

We are the ones who will protect our freedom to vote – building on the work that generations of activists, particularly Black activists, have done before us. Join Indivisible Oregon to show the GOP our 2020 victories were the beginning of progressive change. Our time is now.

Democracy cannot coexist with white supremacism. The freedom to live and to vote without fear matters, for our democracy and to our humanity. Join us to advocate for the George Floyd Justice in Policing and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Acts. Together, we continue the work to realize democracy's promise for all.

Underpinning any democracy is the freedom to vote, which is under attack by the GOP, with the help of the Heritage Foundation and the Roberts Court. To preserve our democracy, the Senate must act swiftly, reforming the filibuster so that it can pass S. 1 and rebalancing the federal courts by passing the Judiciary Act.

Last week, a Trump-appointed district judge struck down the CDC’s nationwide eviction moratorium, placing at risk the 12 million Americans behind in their rent. This is just one example of how the GOP-packed courts will subvert Biden’s agenda. Legislation to protect us and our democracy will not survive unless we take back the courts by passing the Judiciary Act of 2021, dramatically increasing lower court judgeships, and nominating and confirming judges committed to civil and human rights.
