Trump’s Project 2025 Will Savage Public Education
QUICK READ: If elected, Donald Trump will destroy public education as we know it. We need well-educated citizens to compete in the 21st-century economy, think critically, and defend our democratic values. Trump’s denial of knowledge about Project 2025 is simply a lie to protect his campaign from the expanding backlash as citizens learn its cruel, destructive details.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
Trump’s Project 2025 is a destructive, cruel plan designed to turn America into a far-right white Christian nationalist nation.
Along with deporting millions of immigrants, persecuting political rivals, using the military to suppress domestic dissent, eliminating reproductive freedom, and significantly cutting billionaires’ taxes, Trump’s Project 2025 would destroy our public educational system, which is essential to preserving and promoting democratic values and training future leaders in fields ranging from the sciences and medicine to politics and the arts:
Eliminating the Department of Education, which ensures equal access to educational opportunities and promotes excellence from kindergarten to university, and phasing out federal educational funding;
Dismantling Head Start and Title I, which provides grants to K-12 schools with large populations of low-income students;
Transferring taxpayer money from public schools to religious institutions;
Terminating student loan forgiveness programs and discouraging post-secondary education;
Suppressing and censoring history by removing references to race, gender, and sexuality from school curricula;
Certifying teachers based on their values;
Adopting a parents’ bill of rights giving them control over their children’s education;
Banning DEI teaching in all educational institutions;
Eliminating protections for LGBQT+ students;
Ending federal funding for disabled students.
Between now and November, we and our MoCs must remind voters how Trump’s Project 2025 will destroy our children’s ability to learn how to become happy and healthy adults.
